IMAGIST POETICS

This blog contains examples of my imagist poetry in a variety of poetic forms.
The poems are my copyright but maybe used for educational purposes provided due acknowledgement is given and advice of such use thereof to strandbg@aol.com

TO A WIFE

Softer than the summer rain

Are your kisses refrain,sweet-heart

Couplet Inspired by Amy Lowell's 'To A Husband'

SPACES Gael Turnbull(1928-2004,a Scottish doctor-poet created the imagist Spaces form in his collection Briefly (1967) a two line poem with a larger than usual space
Turnbull  called poems using his device ‘Spaces’, and noted of these ‘The visual “space” is,a pause or hesitation, even a temporary dislocation of attention’ .
Here is an example of mine
CATCH 22

a window pane shatters

nobody makes a home run

SPACES an imagism form it has a title and three lines ,the middle being blank
and left to the readers imagination.

FIRST LOVE

first glance

perchance

A footle-2 lines,2 syllables (ie a trochaic monometer)

GONE AWAY

With
a kiss
on her lips-
a face cold and
bare,
still,
beauty in her stare-
but she was not
there

The lanterne form in a linked sequence

My fingers reach to touch the sky

Where swallows circle,then southwards fly.

A Crystalline

enveloped in fog

the bonfire night party ends...

is life a damp squib ?

A senryu

SOME CINQKU

muffled

bells echo

across the square---

sepia memories

surface

August

shaded gold

becomes monsoon---

berries rot beneath the

bramble

over

the stubble

carrion crows---

the gamekeeper heads home

for tea

SOME CINQUAINS

Springtime,
Daylight unfolds
Soft mist,and mild days of
Blue-bell glaze,growing wild beneath
God's gaze.

BRING TO LIGHT

Sunlight
in the shadows,
sliver lining the cloud-
forgiveness heals with whispers said
aloud

A LITERAL IMPRESSION

Flowing
swirling swathes swarm,
fervent,fervid feelings-
stirring stark sensations once hid
within.

ALL HALLOWS EVE

Skipping
across the lawn
dead leaves dance together-
until the tempo fades as the
moon drops.

FIBONACCI

NATURE'S IRONY

Just
out
of reach-
blackberries
above the nettles

ELEVEN,ELEVEN,ELEVEN

Chill breath of autumn
Sears the poppy scarlet red,
On his memory'd cenotaph.

Tears trickle in the furrowed
Faces of young comrades
.....now long dead

A Sestet

VIDUAGE

Tall
nettles-
the dutch hoe
rusting in the
shed.

A lanterne

Cameo-OLD WIVES TALES

I change.... but in death

a bay leaf falls and dies-

My regret ... follows you to the grave

upon the fresh earth the asphotel lily lies-

In country lore of days of old

flowers ...a symbolic story told
